Kaunialan Sairaala Oy and Enfucell Oy have signed a cooperation agreement on a project for developing a telemetry and care concept for elderly people. A letter of intent for the project was signed on Wednesday, June 1, 2016.

Kauniala hospital joins forces with Enfucell to develop care technology

The joint project aims at developing a multipurpose sensor, which is flexible and simple for its user, provides additional safety for elderly people living at home, while reducing health care costs by cutting down unnecessary visits to health centers.

– There are various devices and applications for remote care on the market, but none of the existing ones were able to fulfil the expectations on what we wish to offer for our clients, says Mervi Ahlroth, Managing Director for Kaunialan Sairaala Oy.

Enfucell has developed a flexible and thin battery technology, which enables the use of sensors integrated into soft skin-attachable patches. So far this battery technology has mainly been used for applications in sports, logistics and cosmetics. However, the technology can also be applied to medical healthcare use.

– We are excited about developing technology in cooperation with end users, hence the usability of the end product in real world is now in the focus from the very beginning, says Markku Ellilä, the CEO of Enfucell Oy.

Kauniala and Enfucell have built a consortium of Finnish companies for developing the technology into an all-inclusive concept. Artic Connect Oy, a company from Rovaniemi, is one of the members of the consortium. Their video-based, remote access system (Service-TV) is used as a part of the concept. Arctic Connect Oy has for several years provided services and service development for video conferencing technologies used by the largest hospitals and hospital districts in Finland, as well as by professionals working in the social sector. The technology is compatible with the leading standardised video conferencing technologies on the market.
