Noona Healthcare Raises €1,5 Million in Seed Funding – Brings Finnish Cancer Care Expertise to the Global Market in Digital Format
HELSINKI, November 22nd 2016 – Noona Healthcare, a cloud-based oncology platform for patient-reported outcomes, announced the completion of a €1.5 million seed funding round led by Inventure, a Nordic venture capital fund. Other investors in the round included Noaber Ventures, the investment arm of The Noaber Foundation, and Belgium-based digital healthcare fund Capricorn ICT Arkiv.
A global cost crisis in cancer care has created an urgent need for better technological solutions to automate hospital processes and provide more personalized patient support during treatments. With Noona, cancer centers gain the intelligence to improve the quality of cancer care. They can identify severe symptoms earlier and target scarce resources to where they are needed most.
From the very beginning, Noona has been developed together with the world’s leading cancer doctors and researchers – and the results have been nothing short of spectacular. The main partners of the company are Stanford Medicine and Helsinki University Cancer Center. Armed with the new capital, Noona continues scaling the business globally.
The word Noona stands for big sister. The founders of the company created a service that supports cancer patients’ individual needs and enables secure access to their care team, regardless of time and place. The more Noona learns about the patient’s symptoms, lifestyle and wellbeing, the better it becomes in preventing unwanted treatment consequences, such as emergency room visits or paralysis. In addition, Noona provides researchers unique data on the real life safety and efficacy of new novel treatments in different patient groups.
”Patient engagement rates have been unparalleled. The reception among healthcare professionals has exceeded all expectations, and every University Hospital in Finland already uses Noona. The funding will allow us to focus on marketing the platform globally and building strategic partnerships, that we have already entered with pharma giant MSD among others. Our plan was never to make it alone – but together with the leading global players in the life science arena”, says Jani Ahonala, CEO of Noona Healthcare.
Ekaterina Gianelli, Investment Director at Inventure comments: “Healthcare is undergoing a major digital transition. There is a lot of new data available to the industry, and companies like Noona can utilize the data to deliver better health outcomes. With its experienced team and top-notch partners, Noona is well prepared to execute on their big vision of transforming global healthcare.”
Next, the Finnish company will bring emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and predictive analytics into its offering. “Our vision is to create a digital coach that can talk to cancer patients and help them cope with their disease and treatments”, says Jani Ahonala.
