Who we are
Nukute Oy, an innovative Finnish SME, has developed a novel, user-friendly and cost-effective technology to pre-screen and assist diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea patients and snoring. Nukute consists of a small innovative engineering team from Oulu, with experience of medical technologies.
Apart from insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has the highest prevalence in the general population of all sleep disorders. It affects approximately 3–7% of the middle-aged male population and 2– 5% of middle-aged women. Despite increased diagnostic and treatment facilities, the majority are still undiagnosed, 80% of the estimated half a billion population. Studies have indicated that undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea, with or without symptoms, is independently associated with increased likelihood of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, stroke, daytime sleepiness, motor vehicle accidents, and diminished quality of life. In the US, the annual direct and indirect economic cost of OSA has been estimated to be 65-165 billion dollars. The disease does not only affect the patient, but also those sleeping in the same room. Strategies to decrease the high prevalence and associated morbidity of obstructive sleep apnea are critically needed.
The main benefits of Nukute system, compared with existing pre-screening, diagnostic and treatment devices, are easiness to use, cheapness (70-90% cheaper than competitors), accuracy and robust measurements, and comfortable, wireless design without a mask and with an easy-to-use mobile application. The device can be combined with an electric pulse stimulation based on the treatment device (embedded). It enables conditioning the patient to change their sleeping position and strengthening obstructive muscles when apnea occurs. This treatment method is based on individual conditioning and the patient does not wake up when the stimulation starts.
