Who we are
Students from both the technical and artistic fields can meet and develop games together. New game developers graduating from the lab around 40 per year. Our research, development and innovation activities focus on gamification and serious games. We have relatively large and active cooperation with Finnish companies especially focusing on digital rehabilitation.
Two Tekes (The Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation) funded projects namely Gamified Solutions in Healthcare (GSH) and Virtual Reality in Driving Inspection (Virdi) have formed a basis for our health related RDI activities. In addition, in January Turku Game Lab will be participating in EU's Horizon 2020 flagship project called Activage (more information: http://www.finlandhealth.fi/-/european-commision-funded-activeage-project-start-in-january).
In GSH project, our RDI focus has been on new services and effective activity solutions to elderly people through gamification. The main objective in turn have been to offer more options for the elderly’s self care and eases the healthcare professional’s work load. In Virdi project, together with our academic partner University of Turku our RDI focus has been on evaluation of driving behavior and ability done by medical doctors, evaluations are not scientifically reliable. The main objective in turn have been to create a prototype of a measurement device called NeuroCar for driving skills and perceptual capacity.
